Start Sailing 1 course is for Juniors aged 13 and above including Adults of any age learning the basics of sailing in a Pacer Dinghy.

Our next beginners course "Start Sailing 1" is schedueled for Feb 2026. We have a waiting list and will be going out to the first 12 on that list to offer places in this course. If not all those places are taken then we go out to those next on the waiting list until the course is full (12 places).  You can go on the waiting list for our next "Start Sailing 1" course by downloading the 2026 Application, complete it (without payment details) and send a copy to training@mordiallocsc.com.au requesting to go on the "Start Sailing 1" Waiting List.
The Sail Training Coordinator (Dale Collings) will always acknowledge if received, so if no acknowledgment then you need to followup with him on 0415 595 754.

Sessions are all on Saturday mornings from 8:30 am to 11:30 am commencing 1st Saturday in February 2026 then each Saturday to the end of April 2025 (excluding all Public Holiday long weekends) . 

This is our most popular course each year being the warmest time of the year with the best weather to Learn to Sail.

The club provides all the boats and safety equipment and experienced Qualified Instructors and Assistants.

Mordialloc Sailing Club is a very family friendly club and it is not uncommon for the parents to be learning in this course while the juniors aged 6 to 12 years are learning in the Tackers program at the same time.


Course Overview

This course introduces participants to dinghy sailing and its fundamental skills so they learn terminology and equipment and practice launching and returning to shore and capsize recovery. 

Course Prerequisites

Water confident.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Sailing 1 completion certificate. 

 

We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here
