ISAF Sailing World Cup 2015

Sail Melbourne 2013

This year the ISAF SWC will be ran at St. Kilda out of the RMYS clubrooms and the Sea Baths buildings. Volunteer operations will be at RMYS and competitor operations out of the sea baths. The format of the event is:

  • Event dates 7th – 13th December 2015.
  • ISAF invites (and supports) 30 of the top sailors in each of the Olympic Classes and the host nation invites 10 competitors in each of those classes. Hence, we should end up with 40 boats in each of the Olympic Classes.
  • 3 course areas will be devoted to Olympic Class sailing.
  • 3 additional course areas will be devoted to invited classes and kite boards.
  • Para-Olympic classes will run on a 7th course, probably out of Williamstown.
  • 12-14 partner clubs will run the 7 course areas – of which MSC is one partner club.

What does this mean for our volunteers? A number of immediate issues come to mind – primarily about access to the site and car parking. One of the solutions we propose to implement is a car pooling shuttle service to operate from the MSC grounds up to the RMYS venue. For those not coming past MSC we will try and arrange other car pooling. The venue is well served by public transport tho. Volunteer car parking at the venue will be limited, but what will be provided will be free of charge – probably by voucher.

MSC will be sending Sounds Good, DOM II, Escort & Wright Duck to the event and we will be seeking volunteers to man those boats. The Organising Committee will soon be opening the online volunteer registration process. This is an ISAF Grade 1 event (the only one in the southern hemisphere) and it would be great if we could enlist your assistance to run one of the Olympic Class courses.
