Wrap-up of the Family Fun Pacer Day 24th February 2019

A very light northerly breeze greeted the members as they arrived for a fun day, sailing Pacers in a family setting.

The breeze swung around a bit and teased the sailors on shore into thinking there may be a breeze or there may not.
Registrations were taken at 12:30 p.m. with longtime family names such as
Parsons, Griffiths, Rae, Thompson, Hosie and current members Heins, Bretherton, Lee, Rewell, Haagen, Shannon, Dalton, Lombard and Carbonell.
Heat One was held up due to lack of wind as well as the numerous directions it was indicating.
Finally, a very light sea breeze filtered in pushing the northerly away and the race was ready to go.
In a 5 + knots southerly an interesting race unfolded with James and Simon Lee taking the gun in the first race.
After a changeover of crews, heat 2 was underway in similar conditions with a steady southerly wind.
Craig Thompson sail well to greet the gun at the finish line with the remainder of the fleet close behind.
Again it was back to shore with a reallocation of boats to those that had been in the first four placings in both heats 1 and 2.
It was then back out to the start line for the final race, the decider.
There was some serious sailing in the final with offensive tacking and a great battle around the leeward mark leading up to the finishing line with and Ian & Jim Rae fighting it out with Steve Griffiths and Jenny Molan.
Andy and Jim managed to cross the line just a header Steve and Jenny to take out the coveted trophy.
Back to the shore, unrigged, put the boat’s away, have a shower, wash away the salty taste with a beer or two and then on to the presentations.
