Sabre States Titles Results – 9th/10th February ’19

The Victorian Sabre State Titles were held at Elwood over last weekend, 9th / 10th February.

The Saturday was blown out with 30+knots in between the 50 knot squalls that wiped up big waves and besides it was not possible to launch unless 2 or 3 people assisted and then it was still risky. An enjoyable dinner was put on by the club with a hot meal and good conversation until dusk. It was then home for a good sleep knowing that the next day could well be a very strenuous one.

Sunday started off with a good 8-12 knot medium breeze as race management tried to get in 4 races prior to the 4:00 pm deadline. As the morning progressed, the wind lighten off to a couple of knots as we managed to scrape in two races. Back to shore for lunch as we waited until the wind came in again but this time only around 5-10 knots in a shifting breeze. Chris Dance had a chance to win the series if he was able to stayed within 3 places of Gary McClennan but this did not happen.

A presentation of trophies took place around 5:30 pm with the following:

Chris Dance was the standout MSC rep with 2nd overall and 1st Masters Champ. Peter White was 10th overall and 1st Veteran whilst Colin White was 9th overall and Chris Thorpe a well deserved 33rd.

Mordialloc was equal 2nd best club at the regatta.
